The Story
South African DJ and Producer Aidin Caye started his career 10 years ago at the age of 16 as a resident DJ in clubs and bars on the East Rand of Johannesburg. The fact that he was too young to be at the parties didn’t stop him as he absorbed his surroundings and built up a passion for connecting with people through music. He was able to quickly build a reputation for himself for his unique DJ sets and ability to keep his crowds entertained, both through live sets and popular radio mixes and has since come a long from his small-town bar DJ set roots to become one of the most respected tastemakers in the country.
Aidin has always positioned himself on the side of music that celebrates artistry more than popularity. Finding his roots early on in groove-driven Tech House, his sound has transformed over the years to find it’s home at the warm heart of analog flavoured melodic techno.
2015 saw the release of his debut single on Universal Music South Africa, “Reflections”, which was a collaboration with Liquideep front man, Ziyon. However, it wasn’t until a year later that Aidin reworked the single with a young up-and-coming producer, Mark DVB, that the song received traction on South African Radio, charting on 5FM, Good Hope FM, Apple Music and reaching the Top 50 of the South African Overall Shazam chart.
Shifting his focus slightly from that point, Aidin spent most of his time working behind the scenes with record labels and other artists to help them realize their visions both online and in the live industry at large. For the better part of the last 4 years, the 26 year old has spent the majority of his time touring with fellow DJ & producer, TiMO ODV, one of the most active live performers in the country. Opening for him at clubs and festivals across the country, the two are trying to push the techno culture and expose the sound to new audiences in the hope of growing the scene on their local shores.
2019 saw the producer shift gears again and go all in on his own brand with his first radio single in over 3 years, “Hypnotize”. Much more inline with the sound that he holds dear to his heart, the single achieved impressive figures for an independent dance music release, peaking in the Top 20 on the South African Shazam chart and achieving over 300,000 streams.
2020 will see the release of Aidin’s debut EP, “Connections”, an 8-track opus that portrays his personal music taste, as well as his growth as a producer. 2 collaborations are featured on the extended player, one with long time musical friend Apple Gule, and another with sultry songstress Kylah Jasmine, the rest of his work is either instrumental club focused dancefloor fillers or feature his own vocals, a first for him (at least since his short stint as the male lead in a Grade 7 production of Grease).
